Recently my brain has been flooded with thoughts of our time in the duplex together pre-Finn (and in some cases pre-Luna). Much of this time period I have documented here already, but I figured I would put down some of these random thoughts as they swirl around. Why are the memories swirling? Many reasons, but a big trigger was Lindsey pointing out that in our bathroom we still have the stool from a table we had in the duplex, by far our longest lasting furniture.
Actually some of the memories are pre-duplex, from that short time we were in the apartments midtown. That was not a pleasant time, I remember from that period mostly bad things: me and Lindsey fighting, a leaf fish dying because of a bad water transfer, "the blue snow cone event" which we still reference today, the time a woman next door demanded to come in our place to get from her crackhead boyfriend, how much I fought with them over dog poo, it was like six months of bad memories. What I can remember from that period is how the duplex felt like a reset after that.
So much of the duplex was a blur, so I remember the victories and good moments. Like a particular walk we took in the nearby country club when Xena was young when a car stopped and complimented how pretty she was. Actually I can remember a few walks with her and Xena around that neighborhood, some of my best memories of that time are us rambling around what used to be the rich people's part of town when I was in high school.
Other memories include why my dad came and helped retile the laundry room early on, and bought us a washer and dryer that stuck with us pretty far into our life in Leander. One of my favorite memories of my dad actually, really appreciated him helping making that place more livable.
I can actually remember buying the table from a place called The Dump in Houston when Lindsey's parents lived near the Woodlands. That drive was memorable. It was a cool table, but the duplex was very crammed with a table right near the entrance. Interesting what lasted the longest from it was a single stool, you never know.
I will never forget the two times I went on the duplex roof: once to mount an antenna and once to put Cat 5e cable over the top to connect the main TV with the server. What is funny is now shifting around OTA channels is a big deal but there I was doing it in 2009. Actually a certain setup from 2009- when we had my parent's plasma in the bedroom and I had my first flat screen in the living room- really stands out to me. I had a proto-Plex box with content and live TV streaming across the place, really one of the only times I really had it all together. I was living in the future at that moment.
Then its a bunch of small memories: the Fundome with Christmas decorations, the time I noticed a girl I had a crush on in junior high lived four duplexes down, the year it really got all iced and snowed over, trying to clean up the small backyard, the drama with the neighbors (between themselves), basically living on Lindsey's grandparent's metal table, the orange kitty, the snake event and Luna the puppy, the quick commute to the clinic, and the dirt that was everywhere.
