When I started this blog it was intending to capture the feelings of the pregnancy period, and capture a moment in time that I knew would soon quickly past. When the pregnancy went through the critical month this became a place to record a previous version of my life and a Laurel Lane mindset that I knew would soon be too hard to remember on the other side of the pregnancy. It became a form of escapism, and a way to validate a five year period in our lives that had passed without much fanfare or reflection.
But here in 2019 the blog takes on a new purpose, as I am now facing a watershed year with more major events than what occurred in the previous ten years combined. Things move so quickly that events that would have defined my entire year in the past have sometimes been swept away from my mental landscape before that month was even over. The purpose of this post is to break it all down month by month so the whole experience won't be forgotten.
January: House anniversary warranty work and decisions, final month of the pregnancy and Lindsey's maternity leave back and forth, Roscoe's death and the long goodbye the weeks leading up to it.
February: Finn is born early, reality check of being a new parent, buy first set of clothes I will buy for him, He barely fits in everything.
March: Sister's wedding in Austin is fun, Finn meets Roigs, Finn wears three months clothing I bought him, Luna loves Finn, he went to the office with me.
April: Finn's first Easter. New couch. I get into VR via Labo. Wore little whale outfit for the last time.
May: Finn's last day in little whale outfit I bought in Feb. Got real VR headset Oculus. Finn became a real person around this time and started gurgling at me in his changing table.
June: Finn in the high chair for the first time. He is sleeping good and the summer is an enjoyable time.
July: Finn gets his helmet. I stop gurgling at him as much in hopes he learns real words. I start to get a real hang of fatherhood.
August: Buddy dies and I go to Mississippi for the funeral. Woman rear ends me. I go to first trade show since Finn. Felt like a big setback in regards to life management.
September: Finn goes swimming for the first time and to the dog park for the first time when Alan visits. Old Town Road becomes the soundtrack of our lives and I ended up hearing the song for 16 hours in 2019.
October: Finn in physical therapy. Car hits 100k. We have our first break as parents over a lake weekend. We enjoy Halloween with Finn as me and him dress up in Toy Story costumes.
November: First Thanksgiving for Finn and he gets to eat some of the Thanksgiving dinner. Luna is the only dog around in the pipes lake house getting Thanksgiving scraps.
December: First Christmas for Finn. We spent time with her parents the week before and mine the day of. He got a pile of toys but her preferred getting mom's banana pudding. We spent the new year being boring and I spent the last day of 2019 reflecting on the year.
